What's In It?

One of our most popular supplements, this digestive aid for dogs and cats helps promote proper digestion and bowel health through gut-soothing herbs, digestive enzymesprobiotics and prebiotics. Each of these work in a different way to help support and maintain a properly-functioning digestive system.

Probiotics and digestive enzymes

Probiotics

Probiotics are “good bacteria," living microorganisms projecting health benefits for their host—namely, digestive systems. They're quantified by the number of colony forming units (CFUs), a term that describes the probiotic's ability to reproduce. The higher the CFU, the better the effect of the probiotic on the body.

Prebiotics of our digestive enzymes

Prebiotics

Prebiotics are essentially the food source for probiotics. They are long-chain sugars that encourage the growth of good bacteria in the gut. It's important to have a high-level CFU probiotic that accompanies prebiotics.

Digestive Enzymes, close up and iconified version

Digestive Enzymes

Enzymes work to break down nutrients. Some molecules are harder to break down for dogs & cats (for instance, the cellulose found in plant-based foods). Digestive enzymes break down large molecules into smaller, more usable pieces that can be utilized effectively by the digestive tract. Microflora Plus contains digestive enzymes that are specifically geared towards a carnivore’s needs, including elevated levels of amylase and cellulase.

Herbs and our natural remedies

Gut-Soothing Herbs

Herbs soothe GI distress naturally, without interfering with the digestive enzymes and probiotics already at work. Ginger, cinnamon, and licorice are all gut-soothing herbs that can be found in Microflora Plus.

Pro Tips for Picky Eaters:

If feeding a raw, wet or rehydrated diet, we’ve found the sprinkled Microflora to be typically unnoticed when mixed in with meals. For a dry kibble diet, it can sometimes help to add a couple splashes of water to help the powder stick to the kibble pieces. We’ve also found that sprinkling a healthy kibble topper (like our Smiling Dog Kibble Seasoning) can distract even the pickiest of pooches.
